Time outdoors is an amazing gift we can give to our children, and a wonderful way to encourage self-directed learning through play during the summer months. Our all-outdoor nature camps are designed to offer unique learning experiences, plenty of space for open-ended nature exploration, and abundant time for PLAY.

Bugs & Slugs

June 22nd - 25th @ Vinegar Flats Farm, Spokane

All living things have important work to do! This week will surely inspire a deeper awareness of the creatures that share our land and their fascinating features. Educators will model ways to be curious and gentle as we facilitate up-close encounters with insects and other crawly critters. As children gather knowledge about these unique creatures, they will be forming connections that will lead to an appreciation and respect for all our neighbors on planet Earth.

TIME 9:00 - 12:00, Monday thru Thursday

AGE 4 - 7. Campers must have turned 4 by the first day of camp. Nature camp is not suited for children under 4 and refunds will be given.

Feathered Friends

July 13th - 16th @ Vinegar Flats Farm, Spokane

Join us for a week of fun and folly as we explore the lives of some of our favorite feathered friends. Birds hold a very special place in our hearts; they are the messengers of the natural world. To know the robin’s song, or to think like the osprey, or to soar like the bald eagle is a gift. This week will be filled with bird-watching, exploring nests, eggs, feathers, and Inland Northwest birds both big and small!

Fairies & Flowers

July 20th - 23rd @ Lilac City Harvest, Spokane Valley

In this whimsical camp, children will dive into their imaginations as they explore the possibility of fairies and gnomes! Using flowers, herbs, and other natural materials, children will create cozy homes for these creatures as they invite the joy of mystery into the playspace. Children will also learn about, explore, and utilize herbs and flowers for projects and potions! They might even be lucky enough and go home with their own set of wings and nature crowns.

Rocks & Gems

August 3rd - 6th @ Vinegar Flats Farm, Spokane

Does your child always come home with a pocket full of rocks? In this camp we will explore the beauty of rocks, gems, and minerals together. Your child will have the opportunity to see and feel many different types of stones as we sort them and discuss their properties – the qualities that make each mineral unique. We will also spend plenty of time digging, sorting, sifting, and hunting for treasure.

Wild Art Adventure

August 10th - 13th @ Lilac City Harvest, Spokane Valley

Join us for a week full of art exploration on the farm! Children will create connections with the natural world as they explore ways to use art to express what they see, hear, and feel. As always, we will focus on open-ended exploration of art materials while introducing exciting new creation techniques. This camp will include many different art mediums and is guaranteed to be a colorful-splashy-messy adventure.

Wilderness Skills: Shelter Building & Water Purification

July 10th @ Lilac City Harvest, Spokane Valley

Our Wilderness Skills Intensive is a four-hour experience for children ages 8-12 that blends guided instruction with creativity and free exploration. Session will focus on shelter building with natural materials and on foundational water purification techniques. Alongside structured skill-building, children will have the freedom to experiment with their designs, collaborate with peers, and engage in imaginative play in nature.

Nature’s Canvas: The Art of Natural Dyes

July 24th @ Vinegar Flats Farm, Spokane

This four-hour outdoor experience for children ages 8 - 12 will combine playful exploration with guided instruction. Campers will learn how to gather and use plant materials to create their own beautifully dyed fabric or artwork. With supporting teaching woven throughout, children will experiment with color and explore the fascinating transformation from plant to pigment. There will be ample time for exploration, collaboration, imagination, and play!

Frequently Asked Camp Questions

How many children attend each camp?

Each weekly summer nature camp enrolls 10 - 12 children and will have two trained nature educators on-site at all times.

Will my child be outside the whole time?

Yes! We are a full nature-immersion program so we will be spending all of our time outdoors during the camp-day.

Is snack/lunch provided?

For Summer Nature Camps, we provide one snack of a seasonal fruit or vegetable. Families will bring a sack lunch for their child to enjoy at the end of our camp day.

What kind of equipment/clothing must my child bring?

Children must arrive prepared for the weather each day, as we will be spending our time outdoors. Families will receive an email two weeks prior to their camp date with specific instructions about what each child needs for camp.

What if my plans change and I need to un-enroll my child from camp?

With written notice of a withdrawal, families can receive a full refund for camp tuition up to two weeks prior to the start of each camp. Withdrawals that occur within two weeks will not be refunded.

Is there a waitlist for camps that are full?

Yes! You can email info@greenplaynw.org to be added to a waitlist for individual weeks of camp. Please include the following information: name, phone number, email address, child’s name, child’s DOB, and which camp you would like to attend.
